Coffee Break
Happy Labor Day! Summer is (un)officially over, so I say… bring on the fall season!
Before we start chatting, I’d like to take a moment and offer my thoughts, prayers, and hope to everyone in Texas affected by the hurricane. My heart pours out to each of you as I sit here watching the news and scrolling through the photos and videos of complete wreckage. For anyone interested, I want to share ways you can help donate. I found this helpful article on NY Times— it’s a list of ways you can help including both local and national organizations. And here is the official GoFundMe page with all of the Harvey related donations.
With a new month brings a new baking challenge recipe. I posted sunflower cupcakes this past Friday, September 1st, which is September’s challenge. There’s a how-to video to show you exactly how I piped the frosting. It’s much easier than you think and the feedback I’ve gotten so far is the same– surprisingly simple! Here are some pictures from you that came in over the weekend. 🙂
PS: the picture at the top of this post shows the sunflower cupcakes and plain vanilla cupcakes with orange-tinted frosting. I used my 1M piping tip to make the orange swirls!
Thank you so much for the incredibly kind response to my gender reveal cake last week! During my first trimester, I had a feeling we would be blessed with a daughter. Speaking of! Let me quickly show you something I just bought for our baby girl. She is expected to arrive soon!
Can you handle this hat??
I’m feeling pretty good late into my third trimester. Slow and sleepy during the day, though at night– I’m like an insomniac. My mind races. Have you experienced this when pregnant? I usually read a book to help me fall back asleep or I spend a few minutes scrolling through all your beautiful posts in the FB group. (So much talent in this baking obsessed community!) If I’m responding to you at 3am, now you know why!!!
Also arriving this month: Sally’s Cookie Addiction!
My 3rd cookbook is making its way to all of your homes. The publish date is September 19th and I have something super fun planned for the week before. September 11th – September 15th is COOKIE WEEK. 4 new cookie recipes in a row, none of which are in the book. These are all new blog recipes! Sort of like our annual Christmas cookie palooza, only 3 months in advance.
Here’s our schedule:
- Monday, September 11th – new cookie recipe on my blog
- Tuesday, September 12th – new cookie recipe on my blog
- Thursday, September 14th – new cookie recipe on my blog
- Friday, September 15th – new cookie recipe on my blog
- Tuesday, September 19th – release day!
Stay tuned for it all 🙂
I recently made a batch of the COVER RECIPE (monster cookies ↑ ↑). Hands down one of the best recipes in the entire cookbook. Soft centers, chewy edges, tons of oats, peanut butter, and… of course… M&Ms.
Bonus Recipes Still Available
If you pre-order Sally’s Cookie Addiction between now and September 19th, I’ll send you a PDF with 5 exclusive cookie recipes. These recipes are not available in the cookbook nor are they on my blog. Only 2 more weeks to pre-order to obtain them! Here are all the instructions for obtaining the PDF.
Signed bookplates were mailed out this week to everyone who entered the bookplate giveaway. If you’re in Canada, give it a few more days to arrive if you haven’t received yours yet. The giveaway began with only 200 winners but as the entries came in, I increased it to 350!!! My hand nearly fell off in the process, but I’m happy to send them to you especially since I cannot go on a book tour this year. (Thanks Kevin for printing off all those envelopes!!)
If you didn’t enter the signed bookplate giveaway, would you like me to post another one in October? I may be able to do that! I’ll let you know when that giveaway would be in advance, so you can hop on the computer to enter as soon as the post is published on my website.
I just bought three 8-ounce packs of confetti quins. Hands down my favorite sprinkles for baking and decorating. I’m often asked where I purchase these exact sprinkles… and my answer is Amazon. Always Amazon!
New Newsletter!
Are you subscribed to my mailing list? With the help of my wonderful team, I’m starting a newsletter this Fall! I’ll send it out every other week and it will include sneak peeks at upcoming recipes, additional baking tips, trending recipes and videos, and any upcoming specials like giveaways, baking challenges, etc. You can subscribe to my mailing list right here. If you’re not interested in the newsletter, you can opt out by hitting the unsubscribe button at the bottom of my emails. 🙂
I’m pumped to get this going. I’m also hoping to partner with brands/companies to offer you discounts through the newsletter too!
I feel incredibly lucky to be part of a loving, supportive, encouraging, and friendly blogging community. Last week, on the same exact day I posted the gender reveal cake, 16 of my friends shared a surprise “virtual baby shower” for me. And, the emotional wreck that I am these days, I cried reading through every single post.
