November HEB Primo Pick: Better Than Good Bacon Jam...Featuring Bacon-Parmesan Puff Pastry Spirals

Thanksgiving is over…and now it’s time to turn our attention to the Holiday Season: five weeks of parties and last-minute guests. That’s why it’s always good to have few quick-to-make appetizers in your back pocket so you can whip up something at a moment’s notice that looks like you spent ages preparing it! I’ve already shared a few of these simple recipes last week, but I’ve got a few more tricks up my sleeve…starting today. My HEB Primo Pick spotlight item for November is Better than Good Bacon Jam. Man...is this stuff ever addictive! It contains bacon, onion, balsamic, and other seasonings and spices. The flavor profile is tangy, mildly sweet, and full of smoky bacon flavor. This little jar of magic is great on burgers or sandwiches, and it also works perfectly in the appetizer I’m sharing today: Bacon-Parmesan Puff Pastry Spirals.

This finger food couldn't be easier, and it tastes like a million bucks! Nobody has to know that it takes about 10 minutes to assemble...and then your oven works its magic. You get to take all the credit when the compliments come rolling in! Simply unroll a sheet of thawed puff pastry and spread it with cream cheese, a generous helping of  bacon jam, shredded parmesan, and green onions. Then, roll the whole thing up and cut into spirals. After 10 minutes in the oven, you’ve got one amazing little bite. Another bonus? The house smells divine as the little babies bake up!

a Weekend Gourmet Original
Step 1: Preheat oven to 400. Unroll half a package (one sheet) of puff pastry onto a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet. Let it thaw for 30-40 minutes, then roll it out to flatten and enlarge it a bit. Spread the puff pastry with approximately 4 ounces of whipped cream cheese. Then, evenly spread half a jar of Better Than Good Bacon Jam on top of the cream cheese.
Step 2: Next, evenly top the bacon jam with one cup of shredded parmesan. Finally, sprinkle two sliced green onions on top of the parmesan. Roll the puff pastry toward you…the long end…until it is a long log. If you have time, slicing will be much easier if you place the puff pasty in the freezer for 15 minutes first.
Step 3: Use a serrated bread knife to slice the puff pastry into a dozen ½-inch pieces. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the puff pastry is golden-brown and the filling is bubbly. For even baking, turn the pan around after the first 10 minutes. Let the spirals cool for five minutes before serving. Then, get ready for some serious compliments!
These savory little pastries are fabulous!  The creamy filling is perfectly accented by the nutty parmesan and the tangy/smoky/sweet bacon jam. Wrap it all up in a buttery puff pastry blanket, and you’ve got a winner of an appetizer. Serve these spirals immediately, along with a nice glass of wine, and you’ve got a perfect pre-dinner appetizer or company-worthy finger food! Once rolled and sliced, you can even freeze these in a good-quality freezer bag and save them for later in the holiday season. Just promise me you’ll whip up a batch of these ASAP! My Texas-based readers can find this amazing condiment at their local HEB.
