Review and Giveaway: Terrapin Ridge Farms New Product Line...Featuring Tex-Mex Salsarific Sliders
One of my favorite gourmet food companies is Terrapin Ridge Farms. This Florida-based company offers a huge variety of delicious dips, dressings, jams & jellies, mustards, salsas, sauces, and snacks. I've featured their products in here before, and I'm a huge fan! They recently sent me the latest additions to their product line to sample and create an original recipe to share with you. Check out all the delicious goodies they sent me:
Step 3: While the onions and peppers cook, make the burger sauce by combining the following ingredients in a small bowl: 1 cup ketchup, 1/3 cup Terrapin Ridge Farms Roasted Garlic & Poblano Salsa, and 1/3 cup Terrapin Ridge Farms Creamy Horseradish Dip. Combine until thoroughly blended.
- Creamy Horseradish Dip
- Roasted Garlic & Poblano Salsa
- Sweet Heat Salsa
- Dulce de Leche
- Peach Honey Mustard Pretzel Dip
- Tart Cherry, Apple & Rosemary Glaze
So far, we've sampled all of these items except for the glaze...I'm saving that to flavor some pork chops for our Labor Day dinner on Monday! As usual, the products are flavorful and perfect for munching and cooking. The Sweet Heat Salsa is flavored with peaches, which gives a sweet flavor that really enhances traditional salsa. We ate this salsa with tortilla chips and paired it with pretzel rods with the pretzel dip when we watched the last Texans preseason football game. Since both dips featured peach, they paired exceptionally well together!
Of all the new items we sampled, the Dulce de Leche was my personal favorite. This decadent caramel sauce is downright addictive straight out of the jar. However, I had a lightbulb moment the other day: I sandwiched a spoonful of refrigerated dulce de leche between a small batch of snickerdoodles that I made last weekend. It was an impromptu, but delicious, weekend dessert. Holy moly...it was out of this world!! To make it even simpler, you could even use cookies from the bakery. It was a little sticky, but there's no shame in licking your fingers...right?!?!?
I wanted to use at least one of the new products as an ingredient in an original recipe. The spicy horseradish dip and roasted garlic & poblano salsa seemed to pair together naturally...and I always love a good burger. What I came up with was Tex-Mex Salsarific Sliders. A lower-fat ground turkey base is flavored with lots of great Tex-Mex flavors -- including salsa, spices, and crushed corn tortillas. Then the sliders topped with cheddar cheese, a sauteed onion-Hatch chile mixture, sliced avocado, and a spicy-tangy ketchup-based dressing. Sliders are small...but these babies are BIG on flavor!! These are perfect for parties...and I'm thinking kiddies would love having a smaller-sized burger that fits there smaller hands.
Tex-Mex Salsarific Sliders
a Weekend Gourmet Original
Step 1: Combine the following ingredients in a large mixing bowl: 1 lb. ground turkey, 1 large egg, 1 cup tortilla crushed tortilla chips, 1/2 cup Terrapin Ridge Farms Roasted Garlic & Poblano Salsa, 1 tsp. chili powder, 1 tbs. dried cilantro, 1 tsp. onion powder, and 1 tsp. cumin. Use a sturdy spoon...or pristinely clean hands...to thoroughly combine all the ingredients. Let the burger mixture rest in the fridge while you prep the rest of the burger components.
Step 2: Add 1 tbs. olive oil to a non-stick skillet over med-high heat. Add 1/2 yellow onion cut into slivers and 1-2 seeded and sliced Hatch green chiles. Add salt to taste and cook until the onions are soft and the peppers are roasted -- about 10 minutes, stirring often.
Step 4: Shape the burger mixture into six patties. Unless you have a huge skillet or are using a grill, you'll have to make them in two batches. Cook over med-high heat until cooked through -- about 4 minutes per side. Top with shredded sharp cheddar. To serve, spread some of the sauce on a slider bun. Top with a burger patty, some of the onion-chile mixture, and sliced avocado.
These little sliders are the BOMB -- juicy meat, melty cheese, a tangy-spicy sauce, the spicy onion-chile topper...and cooling creamy avocado. If you don't want to make sliders, just make 3-4 full-size burgers. I won't tell. These were full of flavor from the one-two punch of Terrapin Ridge products. I can't wait to make them again for one of our many game-watching meals this football season!
So you can re-create my sliders in your kitchen, Terrapin Ridge Farms is going to give one of you a jar of both the salsa and the horseradish dip that are featured in the recipe! As a bonus, they're also going to let you pick any other item from their product line to complete your perfect trifecta of items. (HINT: That dulce de leche is legit...just saying!). To enter, please go visit the Terrapin Ridge Farms website. Then come back here and leave me a comment telling me which item you most want to try out in your kitchen. I'll accept entries until 11:59 p.m. this Sunday, September 2nd. I'll notify the winner via e-mail on Labor Day. Good luck!!
