What kind of apples are best for making applesauce?

The best applesauce comes from a mixture of multiple types of apples, rather than just relying on one kind of apple. The best apples to use in that mixture are McIntosh, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Fuji, and Jonathan apples.

Can you freeze fresh applesauce?

Applesauce freezes perfectly! To freeze homemade applesauce, wait until it has cooled completely and then put into quart or gallon sized freezer bags. Put the applesauce in the freezer and store it for up to 2 months. Do not refreeze the applesauce once you have thawed it.

How long is applesauce good in the fridge?

If you keep your applesauce refrigerated and in an airtight container it can last up to 2 weeks. That being said it is always better to be safe than sorry, so if you think your applesauce has been left out too long are has gone bad in the fridge, throw it out.

Can I can this applesauce for long term storage?

Yes you can. This recipe can be canned in a water canning bath. Be sure to follow proper canning procedures.

Can I make applesauce in a slow cooker or Instant Pot?

Yes! Instead of placing the apples into a saucepan on the stove, simply place the apples (along with the water, lemon juice, and cinnamon stick) into either a slow cooker or an Instant Pot. For the slow cooker, cook on high for 3 to 4 hours. For the Instant Pot, you’ll need 10 minutes of high pressure.
