July Baking Challenge

Happy July everyone! With a new month comes a new Sally’s Baking Challenge recipe. The first full month of summer is ahead of us, so I chose a fun recipe to assemble and bake with friends and kids. But before we get to the July Baking Challenge recipe, let’s review what the baking challenge is:

MONTHLY BAKING CHALLENGE

• On or around the 1st of every month, I post a new recipe complete with a how-to video, plenty of tips, tricks, and photos.


• I want you to bake the recipe yourself during that month, then come back and tell me how it went


• Share your photos throughout the month using #sallysbakingchallenge on Instagram or email me, tweet me, or upload a photo of your recipe to my Facebook page.


• If you don’t like a particular flavor in that month’s recipe, there is an alternate challenge recipe.

LOOKING BACK ON JUNE

June Baking Challenge recipe: Brownie Baked Alaska

The June 2018 baking challenge came from many of your requests! Baked Alaska was a new-to-me dessert and though I’ve enjoyed it a couple times before, I’ve never prepared it myself. Many of you were eager to make it for the first time too! Instead of the traditional sponge cake, I chose a brownie base (heck yeah brownies and ice cream!!!!). The marshmallow meringue is a Swiss meringue and I included it in another recipe last month: no-bake s’mores cake. I love all of your brownie baked Alaskas using different ice cream flavors and assembled in different sizes. A lot of time, effort, and creativity went into this challenge. Thank you so much for the incredible participation this month and I hope you feel more confident with Swiss meringue and ice cream cakes/cupcakes!

JULY BAKING CHALLENGE

July 2018 Baking Challenge is Apple Hand Pies.

The July 2017 Baking Challenge was cherry pie and the November 2017 Baking Challenge was creative pie crust designs. Pie is taking on a new shape this month and we’re downsizing to single serving hand pies. The 2018 July Baking Challenge coincides with my annual tradition of posting an apple pie recipe during July 4th week. If apple isn’t your favorite, I’m including a few suggestions for alternate fillings. Cut the hand pies any shape you want– as long as you bake some sort of hand pie, you’re participating! Get your pie dough prepared and rolling pin ready!

GIVEAWAY

Everyone who participates in the July Baking Challenge and shares their photo on my Facebook page, in my Facebook group, emails it to me, or on your public Instagram account using the hashtag #sallysbakingchallenge is automatically entered. My assistants and I will keep track of your photos and randomly select a winner at the end of the month. This giveaway is open to the whole world. Giveaway ends on July 31st 2018. A winner will be selected at random and posted on the August Baking Challenge blog post on August 1st.
