Hits the Road...Featuring a Three-Day Weekend Texas BBQ Roadtrip! #roadtrip #texasbbq #weekendfun

After a five-month medical hiatus while I recovered from my November stroke, team is embarking on our first culinary travel feature of 2018 this weekend! We're sticking close to home for this trip to spotlight six of the state's very best BBQ joints over the course of one flavorful three-day weekend. Us Texans are very serious about our BBQ -- which we sincerely believe is the best anywhere in the world. The meat here is smoked low and slow...and BBQ sauce is always considered optional and served on the side. Many Texans' preferred beverage of  choice to wash down their BBQ? Ice-cold Big Red soda, of course! Texas BBQ is all about the quality and flavor of the meat, but good sides are definitely a plus in my book. 

Texas has literally hundreds of BBQ joints located across the state, so picking which specific locations to spotlight was tricky. For this trip, we mapped out a route that focuses on a section of the state that is easily covered in three delicious days and features some of Texas' most highly rated BBQ. Our itinerary will take us to San Antonio hot spot 2M Smokehouse; the legendary Louie Mueller Barbecue in Taylor; a day in East Texas to visit Bodacious Bar-B-Q in Longview and Stanley's Famous Pit Bar-B-Q in Tyler; and finally to Austin to visit Micklethwait Craft Meats and la Barbecue. We've even worked in a pit stop at Slovacek's Bakery in the tiny town of West, Texas for the very best Czech kolaches we've ever tasted!
