Hey y’all. Larisha here from We’re Parents. Today, we’re talking bacon. It’s the way to my heart. Okay, actually that’s doughnuts, but bacon is a close contender. I’ll crumble bacon into just about anything and that’s not an exaggeration.  I love experimenting with bacon, like with these bacon, egg, and cheese pretzel bites. The first step however, is learning how to cook the perfect bacon and for us, that’s in the oven.

It’s super simple and while it does take a bit longer, it’s easier to clean up and there’s no risk of getting popped by frying grease. First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees.  Lay your bacon on parchment paper in a single layer on a baking sheet. If you bacon slightly touches, that is fine. Then, place in the lower one-third of your oven. Bake for 15-30 minutes. Less time for softer bacon and more timer for crispy bacon. Remove from oven and transfer bacon to a paper towel lined plate to soak up and excess grease.  If desired, save bacon grease from pan for future recipes or discard.

If you are using thin bacon or want soft, chewy bacon, then you should aim to bake your bacon in the oven for 15-20 minutes.  If you are using a thick cut of bacon or want crispy bacon, then aim to cook bacon in the oven for 25-30 minutes.

The best way to cook bacon in the oven is on parchment paper because it provides for an easy cleanup. Other options for cooking bacon in the oven are on foil paper or directly onto the baking sheet.  Also, if you have a super thick cut of baking, you can place the bacon on a cooling rack that fits into a baking sheet.
