Greek Chickpea Salad
Greek Chickpea Salad with an authentic greek salad dressing is a favourite salad to serve as a main OR as a side!
A twist on a traditional Greek Salad! Loaded up with chickpeas, green peppers (or capsicum), juicy grape tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and red onion, you will love this chickpea salad recipe. Topped with a creamy block of feta cheese, Greek Chickpea Salad is so versatile, healthy and filling, it can be served on its own OR as a side with any meat/fish!
What ingredients go into a Greek salad?
Finally, the most easiest salad to make requiring minimal ingredients and prep work. There are many Greek salads out on the world wide web that look absolutely delicious. Typical ingredients include:
- Sliced cucumbers
- Tomatoes
- Kalamata olives
- Red onion
- Green peppers (or capsicum — optional ingredient depending taste preference).
- Feta cheese (crumble before serving, or serve the traditional way, as pictured).
(Check out our Avocado Greek Salad here!) While regular tomatoes are normally used, we added grape tomatoes instead because there’s nothing like the burst of sweet, ripe grape tomatoes in every mouthful! Similarly, you could also use cherry tomatoes if that’s what you have!
Simple Chickpea Salad Recipe
Chickpeas are so versatile they can go in absolutely anything! Sometimes known as garbanzo beans, chickpeas are extremely popular in the Mediterranean diet and fit perfectly in a salad such as this. Being a good source of fibre, protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals makes this salad filling and great to serve as a main meal — no cooking being a bonus.
Adding chickpeas to a usual Greek salad is a tradition I know you will fall in love with even more!
Traditional Greek Salad Dressing
Greek dressing is so simple to make, with only four main ingredients:
- Olive oil
- Red wine vinegar (or Lemon juice)
- Dried oregano
- Garlic
From here, you can season with salt to suit your tastes, or follow our measurements in the recipe below!
Chickpea Salad with Feta
Top our Greek Chickpea salad with a whole block of creamy Feta cheese, allowing your guests to break off the amount of cheese they want with their salad, or crumble before serving and mix it through!
Types of Feta Cheese
We love Danish feta for its creamier, smooth texture but you can use any feta cheese you have on hand. Traditionally, Greek Feta is dry and crumbly and you probably prefer that texture to the Danish. There are also marinated options, flavoured or crumbled feta found in your local supermarkets. This salad is extremely forgiving, so you can go with any you wish. My only tip is to take note of the dressing ingredients and try to stick to similar flavours so that the cheese you choose compliments the flavours in the dressing.
