February Baking Challenge
A new month ahead and you know what that means… let’s get baking! In February we’re revisiting cake pops. Homemade. From scratch. We made vanilla cake pops in the summertime, but many of you are asking for a chocolate version. This is a recipe where you can get a little creative with decorating. Those are the types of challenges I love most; where YOU have creative control. Like pie crust designs, checkerboard cake, sugar cookies. And I enjoy seeing what you come up with!
Before we get to it, let’s recap what the baking challenge is.
WHAT’S THE MONTHLY BAKING CHALLENGE?
- On the 1st of every month, I post a new recipe complete with a quick how-to video, plenty of tips, tricks, and photos.
- I want you to bake the recipe yourself during that month! Come back and tell me how it went.
- If you’d like, share your photos throughout the month using #sallysbakingchallenge on Instagram or email me, tweet me, or upload a photo of your recipe to my Facebook page. I want you all involved!
- If you don’t like a particular flavor in that month’s recipe, there is an alternate Monthly Baking Challenge recipe.
A LOOK BACK ON JANUARY
January’s Baking Challenge Recipe: Homemade Bread Bowls
Many of you have been nervous to bake bread from scratch. Yeast intimidates you. And with the cold weather and soup on the stove, I figured homemade bread bowls were the perfect fit. The dough recipe is extremely simple, yet versatile: rustic bread loaves, pizza crust, dinner rolls, etc. I enjoyed seeing how you used it!
Take a look at some of your photos on Instagram. And here’s a bunch that are either there, sent to me, posted on my Facebook page, or in my Facebook group.
FEBRUARY BAKING CHALLENGE
Chocolate cake pops with homemade chocolate cake and chocolate frosting. The difficult part about making cake pops from scratch (no cake mix!) is finding the correct ratio of homemade cake to homemade frosting. I worked until I landed on the perfect single layer chocolate cake, a cake you can absolutely enjoy on its own, and the best amount of frosting that will bind the cake crumbs to produce cake pops. You can skip the “pop” and simply make tomorrow’s recipe into cake balls/truffles, too. Gift them to your Valentine!
