December Baking Challenge
SURPRISE!
December’s baking challenge is coming to you a few days early. You see, every Monday after Thanksgiving kicks off my annual Sally’s Cookie Palooza cookie recipe marathon. Sally’s Cookie Palooza is 2 full weeks of new cookie recipes, 10 recipes in a row. This will be year 5!
I wanted to squeeze December’s Baking Challenge in our cookie palooza-ing, so I figure let’s just stick it right in the beginning. You ready for this?
Before we get to it, let’s recap what the baking challenge is.
What is the Baking Challenge?
- On the 1st of every month, I post a new recipe complete with a quick how-to video, plenty of tips, tricks, and photos.
- I want you to bake the recipe yourself during that month! Come back and tell me how it went.
- If you’d like, share your photos throughout the month using #sallysbakingchallenge on Instagram or email me, tweet me, or upload a photo of your recipe to my Facebook page. I want you all involved!
- If you don’t like a particular flavor in that month’s recipe, there is an alternate Monthly Baking Challenge recipe.
Let’s Look Back on November
Recipe: Pie Crust Designs
November’s baking challenge was all about conquering the fear of pie crust. OR, if you’ve mastered the art already, it was time to focus on your pie crust craft. I loved November’s recipe because it challenged you to get creative and, hopefully, gain some confidence in the process. Because that’s the whole point of these monthly baking challenges: to build confidence and improve your skill. November’s baking challenge gave YOU the control.
And I loved the results.
Take a look at some of your gorgeous photos of unique pie crust designs on Instagram. And here’s a bunch that are either there, sent to me, posted on my Facebook page, or in my Facebook group.
WOW. There is immense talent in this community. I’m so inspired. And want to bake, like, 1387 more pies.
December Baking Challenge
Let’s keep the creativity flowing through the end of the year!
Tomorrow, November 27th, is day 1 of Sally’s Cookie Palooza AND the challenge recipe for December. This is the last challenge of 2017! And, just like November’s baking challenge, the ball is in your court. We’re making decorated sugar cookies. You can make any shape/design you want, but I’m going to specifically teach you how to make SNOWMAN sugar cookies!!! Ahhh they’re so cute!!!
The general feedback I receive about decorated sugar cookies is: royal icing is terrifying. Yes, it can be. But you can do anything with a little practice. Trust me… if I can make royal icing and decorate cookies with it (and have them look somewhat decent) so can you. I promise.
Check back tomorrow for the recipe, step-by-step pics, and the alternate December recipe!
