Easiest Appetizer: Goat Cheese, Honey, Fruit Crostini.
Crunchy toasted bread paired with a blend of honey and goat cheese is the perfect match for seasonal fresh fruit. Easiest appetizer ever.
Here’s a little somethin’ somethin’ I made the other weekend when friends came to visit. Earlier that week, I spotted a recipe on Delish.com for Strawberry Bruschetta. It called out to me. It was exactly the simple recipe I wanted for snacking pre-dinner. Knowing my friends (and let’s be serious, myself)– I added creamy goat cheese and sweet honey.
Let’s just say we binged on this for nearly an hour straight.
So much texture.
So much flavor.
Must stop eating.
Can’t stop eating.
I feel silly even calling this a recipe because it is, as the title suggests, the easiest appetizer. If you’re entertaining this summer, let this recipe take some work off your hands. The amount of praise coming from such a simple recipe made me giggle. “Little do they know! Muhahaha.” (My evil laugh.)
To get things started, pick up some fresh fruit. I used strawberries, blackberries, and peaches. Each are especially juicy this time of year. Raspberries or blueberries are perfect for summer too. Or for a fall treat, try sliced apple, fig, or pear! Use a mix of your seasonal favorites or concentrate on only one fruit. I liked serving a variety.
For the bread, I used both a whole wheat baguette and a simple white baguette. Having both whole wheat and white varieties gave guests more options to try.
My #1 tip? Toast the bread slices! This not only gives them a pleasant crunch, but allows the goat cheese to spread on easier since the bread is warm. And PS: that’s the only time you’ll turn on the oven for this recipe. Yeeeeeah baby.
Toasted bread with various toppings = crostini. Or “little toasts” in Italian. Did you know I studied in Italy? Venice, Florence, and Rome. I need to go back.
Use a creamy goat cheese. Mix the goat cheese with a little honey, which not only makes it easier to spread but sort of tastes elegant. Feel even fancier by serving this with champagne or sangria. Or champagne sangria!! Yes.
Top with your fruits and finish with a drizzle of honey.
There is one variety of crostini that I prepared a little differently. To make Strawberry Balsamic Crostini, I topped the little toasts with the honey goat cheese spread. Then, added sliced strawberry, a drizzle of balsamic reduction, and a little chopped fresh basil. Now if that doesn’t scream summer (summer!), I don’t know what does.
Crunchy, tangy, and sweet. The honey is KEY to its flavor!
Try not to eat them all before your guests arrive.

Goat Cheese, Honey, & Fruit Crostini
Crunchy toasted bread paired with a blend of honey and goat cheese is the perfect match for seasonal fresh fruit. Easiest appetizer ever.
Ingredients:
- 1 French baguette (18 inches), cut into 3/4-inch slices
- 8 ounces creamy goat cheese
- 2 Tablespoons honey, plus more for drizzling
- 1 cup sliced fruit (strawberries, blackberries, peaches)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Place bread slices on a baking sheet. Bake 10 -12 minutes or until lightly toasted. (This is the ONLY cooking you'll do! Woohoo!)
- Meanwhile, mix the goat cheese and honey together until relatively smooth. If it's a little crumbly, that's ok. Spread the goat cheese mixture on the toasted bread. Top with fruit.
- Before serving, drizzle each crostini with honey. Keep leftovers covered tightly in the refrigerator for a couple days.
- Make ahead tip: Prepare recipe through step 2, only do not top with fruit. Cover the goat cheese-topped bread slices tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 day or for up to 8-10 hours at room temperature. Then top with fruit and honey. So, prep in the morning and finish in the evening! So easy.
Recipe Notes:
If you want to make the Strawberry Balsamic Bruschetta pictured and described in this post, follow the recipe above as written, using sliced strawberries as the fruit topper. Chop fresh basil and sprinkle on top of each. Drizzle with balsamic reduction (here's an easy way to make balsamic reduction) and serve.

Use both strawberries and blueberries for a festive, patriotic appetizer on the 4th of July! Which is already next weekend? What the heck?
